Our Review

The Ras Al Khaimah National Museum, housed in a former royal palace and fort complex in the old town area, is a treasure trove of archaeological discoveries and cultural artifacts that speak to the extraordinarily long history of human settlement in the northernmost emirate. Ancient maps and inscriptions identify this region as the fabled land of Julfar, a major trading port mentioned by Arab geographers for centuries.

The museum's collection spans from Neolithic tools and Bronze Age pottery to Islamic-era manuscripts and 20th-century traditional dress. The archaeological section is particularly strong, featuring finds from the prolific excavation sites at Shimal, Khatt, and Al Jazeera Al Hamra that have established Ras Al Khaimah as one of the most archaeologically significant areas in the Gulf region.

The fort building itself holds historical significance as the last residence of the ruling Al Qasimi family before they relocated to a modern palace. The watchtower offers panoramic views of the old town and creek, providing a visual connection between the historical narratives inside and the living community outside.
